PROF. DR. A. EMRE AKSU
Dr Aksu was born in Ankara on April 11, 1967. He graduated from Galatasaray High School, having a french language based education, and from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (English), receiving the title of Doctor of Medicine in 1992.
He started his residency training in 1994 at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. Between 2000 and 2008, he worked as a lecturer and attending surgeon at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. During that period he was especially interested in the fields of Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery.
In 2004-2005, he worked as a research fellow at the University of Pittsburgh Plastic Surgery Research Center in the United States. He conducted research on bone and soft tissue engineering by using adipose-derived stem cells, and on the immunoregulatory effects of bone marrow stem cells in composite tissue transplantation and immunotolerance. He became associate professor of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery in 2010, and received the title of professor in 2018. He continued his work as a lecturer and as Head of Hand Surgery Division at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
His areas of interest include: hand and upper extremity diseases and surgery; congenital hand and upper extremity anomalies; head and neck tumors and head and neck reconstructive surgery; melanoma and non-melanoma skin tumors and cancers; microsurgical and non-microsurgical breast reconstruction; aesthetic surgery of the face, breast and body. He has specialty certificates in Hand Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr Aksu speaks English, French, and his native language Turkish.
